How does the process work when you commission an Illustration?

When you decide you would like to commission an illustration, we will decide the business details first, such as:
• license
• price
• and schedule.

After agreeing to these details, I will send you a contract. A sample contract is available on this site. It will be amended to suit your project. When the contract is signed, the true creative process begins.

We will discuss your project, your audience, and your vision for the illustrations. I will take my notes and small sketches and probably do further research on your subject. When I am satisfied with my research, I will develop a tight black and white sketch that will clearly show the composition and style of your illustration. This is the stage to make the big changes like placement, angles, and content. We will discuss colors so that by time you are ready to authorize the final art, we will have the same image in our minds. Your signature or email will authorize the beginning of the final color art.

Most of the visual problems have been solved by this stage and I have a clear picture in my mind, so that rendering the illustration goes smoothly without any surprises.

If the file is under 30 MB, I will post it in the secure Client section of this site where you can download the illustration. I will send you a password and instructions for downloading the file. If the file is larger than 30 MB, I will send you a CD.
